Foggintor quarry, Devon Photography Locations #8

Foggintor quarry lies on the stunning Dartmoor National park area of Devon, not far from Princetown, it lies at grid reference SX565736

Foggintor quarry is a great place to explore with many compositions, the area includes a small lake in the quarry, a few ruins of old buildings and a varied landscape from all the quarry works.

The quarry operated from 1820 for approx 120 years and like most of the other quarries on Dartmoor such as Haytor and Merrivale supplied many of the buildings in London with granite.

The classic shot involves shooting across the lake with the shapes of the cliff and sweeping moorland behind.

Good for: Unique composition involving a qaurry and lake, great for panoramic shots, peaceful location, just a great place to visit with lots of old history

Difficulty: 15min medium walk from the tiny carpark at the entrace to the private road that goes to the Foggintor quarry

The carpark is approx 5 mins from Princetown or 35 mins from Bovey Tracey by car.

Location: From the tiny carpark walk along the road to the quarry, you will be walking in a South direction along the road, continue past the farmhouse until you arrive at Foggintor quarry.
